Former UI VC receives award of Rising Star, Gold and Silver of Japan

The Japan Republic Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Federal Republic of Nigeria, Matsunaga Kazuyoshi, has awarded Professor Adewole the Order of Rising star, Gold and Silver Star of Japan in Abuja.

According to ambassador Kazuyoshi, the award was in recognition of his performance as Minister of Health, Nigeria and also for promoting a closer Japanese-Nigeria relationship.

Professor Isaac Adewole who was the former Vice Chancellor university of Ibadan, is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was Nigeria’s Minister of Health from November 2015-May 2019.

He was appointed as the President of the African Organization for Research and Training in cancer. His research interest is in the area of human papillomavirus, HIV and gynecologic oncology, a specialists field of medicine that focuses on cancers of the female reproductive system.

He is a member of the governing council of Adeleke University and chairs the National Panel on Cervical Cancer control policy.

He was also appointed as member of the council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities to serve as a member of the international advisory board of the African Cancer Institute and a Comprehensive Cancer Center in sub-Saharan Africa.

According to Professor Olayinka Omigbodun, the Provost of College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, the former Provost CoMUI, Adewole has distinguished himself as a leader in research.

Also, Wole Olanipekin, a legal luminary, SAN and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association described him as a “cat not only with nine lives, but one with 18 lives, who surmounted.“
