History was undoubtedly made when Caleb Group of Schools and University held its maiden Musical Festival and Award Night tagged “Joyful Tidings.”
The event was attended by thousands of parents, staff, students, friends of the school as well as dignitaries from all walks of life. Some of the dignitaries who graced the musical festival are – Former Head of State, His Excellency, General Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Her Excellency, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Wife of the Ooni of Ife, Her Royal Majesty, Queen Naomi Morenike Ogunwusi, Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, Chief Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, Pastor J.T. Kalejaiye and the Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, who led management, staff and students of Caleb University to the event.
Dr. Ola Adebogun, Proprietor and founder of Caleb Group of Schools was on hand to welcome all dignitaries to the event.
Caleb British International School Sports arena where the event took place was filled to capacity with estimated attendance of over five thousand people.
The Musical Festival and Award Night paraded an array of musical stars like Nathaniel Bassey, Sinach, Tope Alabi, Beejay Sax, Ayan Jesu, Bukky Bekes, Oyindamola Adejumo, Folake Umosen, Caleb Orchestra, and other invited Schools.
The star artistes lighted up the atmosphere with great performance to the delight of all participants who danced to the sonorous voices and great percussion of instruments on display. These artistes are men and women of great character brought a great sense of spontaneity to their performance. It was indeed a glorious concert full of true praise and worship, dance and admonition. The energy of songs displayed by all the Guest Artistes in their vigour of movement made students and guests to jump to their feet in great excitement.
All participants were treated to world class music and reception.
The event can best be described as awesome!
Speaking at the event, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology, says Nigeria’s economy is passing through a phase of transition from being commodities-dependent to knowledge- and innovation – based.
He said: “We are moving our economy away from commodity- based to make sure that it no longer depends entirely on this but on knowledge and innovation.
“This is a very important transition and will need the very best in the nation to happen.
“This is exactly what Japan did and it became the second largest economy in the world, until they were overtaken by China not too long ago.
“This is also what China is doing because last year December, China celebrated 40 years of reform and this is what South Korea, Singapore, among others, did.
According to the Minister, both nations with large and small population have achieved greatness because they have emphasised knowledge and diversified their economy.
Onu noted that Caleb Group of Schools, among others, have a very important role to play in producing the human resources that would make the innovation possible.
” If Caleb as a faith-based school believes in the power of God and work according to His word as stated in the Bible, you will surely succeed,” he said.
The minister encouraged the students and Nigerian youths not to worry about happenings in Nigeria presently, as the country would take its place of true greatness soon.
He emphasized that the future of Nigeria to take its place of greatness depended on the younger generation and urged the students to work hard to rebrand the country.
Onu, however, lauded the Director of Caleb Group of schools, Dr Ola Adebogun, for his dedication to promoting quality education and expand the frontiers of knowledge.
He urged other well meaning Nigerians to follow suit.
He also congratulated the recipients of the school awards for contributing to the growth of the school and the nation’s education system.
Also, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, Former Nigeria Head of State, congratulated the school for organizing the concert which he described as a huge success.
Gowon, represented by his Former Press Secretary, Amb. Moses Ihonde, noted that if the leadership of the school resolved to continue following the way of God, it would soon be rated number one in Nigeria’s comity of schools.
“The performances have been world class. Thank you for enabling me to be an observer and witness of excellence, ” he said.
Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Wife of the Lagos State Governor, commended the school for organizing the concert because it showcased the instrument and Voice of Caleb, along renowned artistes.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by Barr. Bukola Akinloye, described music as a language of feeling, passion and an important part of life which is also regarded as a way to escape from pain.
Speaking at the event, Queen Naomi Ogunwusi Wife of the Ooni of Ife, urged Nigerian parents to instill Godliness in their children to promote a healthier society, aside education.
“Parents should train their children in the way of the Lord to promote a sane society.
“A child can have masters, PhD or even professor, but if he or she has no knowledge of God, it is stupidity.
“Make sure you enroll your children in schools that would add godliness to their education,” she said.
Ogunwusi, however, stated that music should be encouraged in schools because it is a form of communication.
She said that since education requires communication to be effective, music was also important to promote it.
The Queen also charged Caleb group of schools to continue to organize and promote similar events for the children who are the leaders of tomorrow.
According to her, the musical festival organized by the school was laudable and a huge success, which should be emulated by other schools.
Also, Pastor Foluke Adeboye, Wife of the General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, also declared that Caleb School had made a lot of achievements and its products were making waves.
“Example of your product is Beejay Sax, who is doing great and mighty things and so I congratulate the leadership of the school, parents and the dedicated teachers; God will reward you all,” she said.
The school gave awards to 70 recipients which included dignitaries, parents, staff and students.
Among the recipients were General Yakubu Gowon, Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Queen Naomi Ogunwusi, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Hon. Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing, Pastor Foluke Adeboye, Mr Tunde Lemo, Chairman FERMA, some staff, parents and students.
