Caleb University Partners with Lagos State in Commissioning Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVS)

In fulfilling its vision of being the leader in producing manpower in commerce, technology and environment, with due regard to relevance to societal needs, Dr. Ola Adebogun, the Founder of Caleb University, supported the idea of Lagos State Government using the University Sport Field as a base to launch its newly acquired two modern  tiguar S-410 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs), thereby exposing its students to practical experience in the state of the art technology.

The State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu was represented by Mr Hakeem P. Fahm, Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Science and Technology to flag-off the project. He thanked the management and staff of Caleb University for their unalloyed support and their notable contributions to the development of the State. He promised that his ministry and Lagos State Government will do all they can to strengthen the relationship.

Top members of the Lagos State Executive Council were in attendance among whom are – the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr. Segun Adeniyi, the Surveyor General of the State, Oluwatomi Sangowawa and other representatives from various ministries.

Principal Officers and Management staff of Caleb University were led by the Vice Chancellor Prof Nosa Owens-Ibie who gave a goodwill message at the occasion.  He said that “Caleb University is willing to partner with Lagos State Government when it comes to development of the State. He also indicated the institution’s interest in establishing a robust relationship with the Ministry of Science and Technology in areas that will be of mutual benefits to the students of the institution in particular and the people of Lagos in General. He remarked that the institution had experienced growth in all ramifications with the support of the founder. Adding that “our students will surely fulfill their dreams” taking into consideration our core values, facilities and faculty members. Students and members of the Students Representative Council were in attendance.

The foreign experts from Asseco Porland were led by Zdzislaw Wiater and played active role in the launch of the drones.  After necessary checks and certifications, the drones were flagged-off for take-off by the representative of the Governor, Mr. Hakeem P. Fahm, Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Science and Technology to the admiration of those who came to witness the event. The drones were handed over to Lagos State Government after the launch.

The experts highlighted that the drones will be used to capture the orto photos of Lagos State, provide Basemap for the state in respect of Land Information Systems, enable and provide accurate data for surveying and mapping of land within the state among other benefits.

Their choice of Caleb University premises as the launch site is as a result of the available of the University landmass which is regarded as the most suitable site in the State.

Students of Caleb University were introduced to advance techniques, importance and usability of drones for various purposes.
